You've probably heard of the song that people sing at birthday parties,
right? You know the one. It starts with the words "Happy Birthday", which
is repeated several times. Supposedly, the song is protected by copyright
by the Warner/Chappell Music Inc., which bought the company which held the
copyright for quite some time. However, the copyright is in dispute,
although Warner/Chappell will strongly defend their rights to the song,
which means almost no restaurant out there will allow their waitstaff to
sing it at someone's birthday celebration.
Anyway, the Happy Birthday song is based on the melody of a song that is
in fact in the public domain. It's called Good Morning To You. You can get
